One of the Arab world’s most prestigious children’s literary competitions are calling out for entries. Publishers have until July 31 to submit entries to the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature. The competition’s top honour is for the Young Adult Book of the Year (for entries targeting 13 to 18 year-old readers) with the winning author and publisher receiving Dh100,000 each. Another big award is the Children’s Book of the Year, worth Dh300,000 to be equally shared by the author, publisher and illustrator. Other categories include Best Text, Best Illustration, Best Production and Digital books of the year with prizes set at Dh100,000 each. Announcements of winners will be revealed at a later date. A further Dh 300,000 will be invested into the Warsha programme, a series workshops by regional literary figures that’s open to aspiring Arabic authors and illustrators. Details of the sessions will be announced soon. To enter the competition, the entries must be original works, not published more than five years ago, not translated and not submitted to other competitions.
