Wissam Shawkat Presents New Works in Solo Exhibition at Tashkeel

  • English
  • Arabic

Arab calligraphy artist Wissam Shawkat’s first solo exhibition will open on Thursday, November 13 at Tashkeel. The Monumental 11/11 by the Dubai-based artist marks a departure from his traditional form and rhythm, focusing more on geometric abstractions with a visual reference to Dadaist, Futurist and Bauhaus movements in drawings, screen prints and canvases.

The new exhibition is a celebration of the relationship between overall calligraphic presence and the intrinsic qualities of individual letters- a tension that sits at the heart of the artist’s practice. The works on show draw on the balance between geometric abstractions and the flowing shapes synonymous with Arabic calligraphy.

The show will open at 7pm on November 13. It runs until January 7, 2016.
