Start Art Fair in London announces global line up

London’s START art fair, which runs at the Saatchi Gallery in London from September 15-18, has announced its list of exhibitors for this year’s edition.

More than 60 galleries from 35 countries will be represented at the fair, now in its third year. This builds on last year’s fair, which featured 52 galleries, 14 of which are also showing this year — meaning a high percentage of new galleries from across the world to get excited about.

With several Korean galleries and other far eastern cities such as such as Tokyo and Hanoi there will be an interesting dialogue with those from London, Paris and New York. While there are no Arab galleries taking part, Khaas Gallery from Islamabad and Project Art Beat from Tblisi sound notable.

Nearly half the fair is given over to curated projects and solo presentations, and this year there are major presentations by two Iraqi-born artists, Mahmoud Obadi and Dia Al-Azzawi as well as a display of works by emerging artists who have taken part in the residency programme at the Fire Station in Qatar.

The other major project this year is the first UK exhibition of the Cambodian artists Sareth Svay (b. 1972, Battambang) who grew up in a refugee camp on the Cambodian-Thailand border where he learnt art at classes held by a visiting French NGO worker.
