These two chairs, designed by Roberto Mora in 2008 are made from individual pieces of recycled steel mimicking the form of the iconic Verner Panton 1960 chair. These are only two in the world and both are part of the March exhibition for La Galerie Nationale, Dubai's leading design gallery. Here we catch up with Guillame Cuiry who tells us about the gallery and the other pieces going on display next week. Q: How would you describe your identity as a gallery? A: We are all about master designers and unique and rare pieces. I don't know how to work with emerging designers. For that reason our collection is only masterpieces that are often of museum standard Q: You have 20 years experience in France and Europe. What is the main difference between owning a gallery there and in Dubai? A: I discovered there is still a misunderstanding of vintage design furniture here. There are people who don't like vintage because they consider it to be second hand, which is a totally different mentality to those in Europe. Q: We can see the wonderful RePanton chairs going into the show. Can you tell us which are the other notable pieces? A: I think along with those chairs there are two other items at museum level. The Julian Mayor clone chair, which is based on the Queen Anne Chair from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. There have been whole books just written about this chair. Also, the Secola chaise lounge from the Monozoo collection by Andrea Salvetti.. We have been negotiating to have this piece in our gallery for six years, until now the piece has only been in museums and it was also part of the 48 th Venice Biennale. Q: Are most of your pieces sold before you display them? A: We have a base of collectors and we have to respect them because we are a trading company at the end of the day. We try to contact all the private collectors or they call us directly. Q: Do you save the best items of the year for the show in March? A: There is no real strategy. I would like the people to come and appreciate the items and after that if they want to buy then it is ok, if not then it is ok. Q: Finally, where do you source your pieces from? A: Aha! That would be telling (laughing). That is what the business is all about. * Beyond The Rules runs at La Galerie Nationale from 17th March to 15th May
