The Palestinian artist Rula Halawani will present a series of untitled photographs that detail the Israeli occupation of Palestine– from the vantage point of fading recollections – in her show For My Father.
In remembrance of her late father, Halawani’s latest body of work revisits several places in Palestine that shaped her childhood memories, including rolling hills, the seashore, and neighbourhoods. In a letter to her father that accompanies the images, Halawani expresses her disbelief and sadness at the disappearance of settings that were integral to her family experiences. Her photographs are created using techniques that portray her distance from these locations as well as her feelings of loss.
