Renowned Emirati artist Khawla Al Falasi’s new exhibition in Dubai looks at flowers beyond their static existence in nature.
Music of the Ground, which is on until November 19 at Ajyad Gallery at DIFC, depicts flowers as that part of nature that, according to the artist, speak a universal language.
Al Falasi believes flowers possess an inner force and respond to atmospheric changes, they interact and play with levels of light, which makes them translucent, luminous and able to cast shadows.
She uses oils to recreate the natural beauty of flowers, painting them with hues to evoke feelings of love, hope, joy, optimism, sorrow and tears.
The artist has used flowers as a subject since 2007, considering them a symbol of a bond between people and a part of the Arab culture. She is perhaps is best known for her photo-realistic depictions in oil of the falcon – her previous exhibition, featuring the magnificent bird, was held at Ajyad Gallery earlier this year.
