Gene Kelly may have popularised pirouetting in a downpour in 1952's Singin' in the Rain, but one dance company is bringing the concept into the modern day with a performance in the UAE. Acclaimed dance studio Company Wayne McGregor is putting on a series of shows at Sharjah Art Foundation's Rain Room between February 14 and 16, making use of the installation's showers in a contemporary routine. Scroll through the gallery above to see the dancers at Sharjah's Rain Room. Dancers from the London company will treat visitors to moves set to Rainlight by composer Max Richter, with the performance choreographed by Wayne McGregor. The routine first debuted at Rain Room in The Curve, at London's Barbican, in 2012. Rain Room is an immersive installation that invites visitors to walk through a downpour of continuous rain without getting wet, thanks to a system of networked 3D tracking cameras. Sharjah's Rain Room is the first permanent installation of the Random International project, and was designed by Sharjah Art Foundation and the UAE-based SpaceContinuum Design Studio in collaboration with Shape Architecture Practice + Research. The Company Wayne McGregor performances will take place between 3pm and 9pm on Thursday, 14 February, between 4pm and 10pm on Friday, 15 February, and between 12pm and 5pm on Saturday, 16 February. To learn more and purchase tickets, visit sharjahart.org.
