Christo, the Bulgarian-born artist who has been wanting to build a giant “mastaba” in Abu Dhabi’s desert for the last 30 years, will finally realise his dream of building the massive structure in France this summer. The Fondation Maeght, a museum of modern art on the Colline des Gardettes, a hill overlooking Saint-Paul de Vence in the southeast of France about 25 km from Nice, is hosting the exhibition in their Giacometti courtyard. As well as external construction itself – which will stand at nine meters high, 17 meters long and nine meters wide - they will also show drawings and plans that the artist has been working on since the 1960s when he first dreamed of this piece of art. The exhibition will present 50 years of work through sculptures, drawings, photographs, preparatory work and will run from June 4 to November 27.
