AUS students win Abu Dhabi Art architectural pavilion prize

Open to UAE-based university students and recent graduates, the architectural prize aims to promote local talent

This year's Abu Dhabi Art architectural pavilion prize has been won by two students from the American University of Sharjah, Salwa Al Khudairi and Nada Al Mulla, whose design was chosen for its functionality and aesthetic merit.

In previous years the art fair has commissioned pavilions from some of the biggest names in architecture such as Norman Foster and Shigeru Ban but this year the tender was made into a competition aimed at UAE-based university students and recent graduates.

"We are very grateful for this opportunity to create and showcase our work to over 20,000 visitors at Abu Dhabi Art” Al Khudairi and Al Mulla said.

The British Council collaborated with Abu Dhabi Art in supporting the inaugural award, and will be presenting a talk on architecture during the fair with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The winning pavilion will be exhibited at the British Ambassador’s residence for two months following the fair’s conclusion, where it will be used as a social space for guests of the British Embassy.
