Artist talk at The Mine to discuss light and lyrics and more

Take time out of your evening to hear a conversation between art critic Mahnaz Fancy and artist Fari Bradley, whose solo exhibition is currently running at The Mine in Dubai. They will touch on themes such as light, death, lyrics and materiality, all topics central to Stitches to Save 9 With, Bradley’s exhibition that runs at The Mine until April 24.

During the discussion, the songs that inspired several of the pieces will be playing, as will the sayings (such as ‘No Woman is an Island’ and ‘On a rock floating through space’) that feature in each work. Bradley is a sound artist primarily who has pushed herself beyond her usual remit for this show and worked with textile, embriodery and lighting for these text-based works. She is also using the platform to exploresthe nuances of language, history and memory. There will be a short electronic and cello performance with Bradley and Clara Asuaje after the talk.

What is graphene?

Graphene is extracted from graphite and is made up of pure carbon.

It is 200 times more resistant than steel and five times lighter than aluminum.

It conducts electricity better than any other material at room temperature.

It is thought that graphene could boost the useful life of batteries by 10 per cent.

Graphene can also detect cancer cells in the early stages of the disease.

The material was first discovered when Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov were 'playing' with graphite at the University of Manchester in 2004.
