If you haven’t been yet, you should certainly head out to Sharjah to see the photography exhibition Vantage Point 2.

It is a group show that was put together as a result of an open call earlier this year. The photographs capture the people, places and landscapes of the UAE, not just Sharjah, and they give a refreshingly new perspective.

This year’s exhibition focuses on the theme of portraits placing at the forefront the relationship of artist and subject.

Elise Vazelakis, who put together The Gamcha Project for Showcase Gallery earlier this year, shows the portraits of the labourers from Dubai Marina.

Zoya Tariq who was born and raised in Sharjah, presented a range of images from Sharjah Corniche and Reem Saeed, who founded Mobipix UAE has a selection of pictures taken with her mobile phone.

There are many, many more that populate the art spaces at the Sharjah Art Foundation, which is why you should go check it out.

Tariq, 21, says it was “thrilling” to be part of the exhibition. “I have been photographing for four years and is my fifth exhibition but nothing takes away from seeing my pictures up on the wall. This is such an important exhibition because it shows many different views and we can appreciate them all.”

* Vantage Point 2 runs until November 30 in Building GH, SAF Art Spaces, Al Mureijah, Heritage Area
