Three UAE-based brands have been nominated for the International Woolmark Prize: the menswear label The Emperor 1688 and the womenswear brands Kage and House of Fatam.

They were chosen by the team behind Fashion Forward, the UAE’s official nominating body for the Woolmark Prize.

Nominees are being longlisted from Asia, Australia, Europe, the United States, and India and the Middle East. From that group, 10 finalists will each receive a financial contribution of 50,000 Australian dollars (Dh170,000) towards their next collection.

The five menswear finalists will meet for a final round in London in January 2015, while the five womenswear finalists will meet in Beijing in March 2015.

The two winners will receive a further 100,000 Australian dollars (Dh340,000) to assist with fabric sourcing and marketing of their collection.

The nominees are required to present the sketches of a Merino wool capsule collection comprising six outfits, with one full outfit to be produced at the India and Middle East regional finals to be held in India later this year.
