Weatherman predicts chance of fog in UAE

ABU DHABI // A low pressure system affecting the Arabian Gulf prompted meteorologists to issue an early morning fog advisory.

The NCMS put out a low-visibility warning for motorists in the early hours of this morning, saying fog would likely form in the western region.

"There will be a weak chance of fog formation due to the low pressure affecting the Arabian Gulf as well as the flow which will be from northeasterly to northwesterly in the morning and mostly southeasterly at night time," said a duty forecaster at the National Centre of Metrology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi.

The predicted fog materialised at 5am this morning reducing visibility in Liwa to 50 metres. It had dissipated by 7.30am.

Hazy weather conditions are expected to continue in the western part of the country tomorrow morning.

"Horizontal visibility will not be less than 5,000 metres which is suitable for motorists and road users," the forecaster said.

The temperature today is expected to reach a maximum of 44°C in the interior and 40°C on the coast, with relative humidity to reach highs of 55 to 90 per cent in the interior, and 65 to 95 per cent on the coast.

The sea swell will be slight to moderate, with a maximum height of 2 to 4ft swell offshore and minimum height of 1 to 2ft on the coast.

Winds will be moderate to general on Monday and Tuesday, freshening at times by afternoon, blowing dust over some internal areas.

Tuesday's weather will also be fair and hazy at times, with another rise in day temperatures by 1°C to 2°C.

"There will be some chance of cloud on the eastern part by afternoon, but it will not be significant," the forecaster said.

The northwesterly wind will also result in relative humidity today and tomorrow - between 85 and 89 per cent on the coast, and 75 and 85 per cent in the interior.
