Two Asians arrested in separate drugs busts in Dubai

DUBAI // Two Asian men in possession of five kilograms of drugs have been arrested in separate operations.

Maj Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, of Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said that the suspects, both of whom were in the country on tourist visas, were arrested after tip-offs.

“Dubai Police received information that there were two men with a huge amount of drugs trying to sell them,” he said.

Authorities tracked down the first suspect, MHM, 21, who entered the country three days earlier.

Col Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, said MHM was in possession of 750 grams of marijuana when he was detained.

“The man was staying at an apartment in Al Baraha, where they found the drugs hidden in five shoes,” said Col Hareb.

He said that the second suspect, MJJM, 30, was caught red-handed trying to sell drugs to an undercover police officer. The Asian man was staying at a hotel in Naif, Deira.

“The police found 4.2 kilos of hash in different corners of the room he was staying in,” said Col Hareb.

The anti-narcotics chief warned against falling victim to the dangers of drugs and said people should not hesitate to contact the police on the free hotline, 800 400 400, if they suspect anyone of being involved in drug activity.

The pair were both arrested earlier this month and reports have been sent to prosecutors.
