Police oversight picked up in re-enactment

Abu Dhabi // The re-enactment of an accident in which a police officer died has led the head of Dubai’s traffic department to identify a failing in the way the situation was handled.

The officer had been dealing with an accident last month on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road when he was hit by another car.

Maj Gen Mohammed Al Zafeen, director of the traffic department, was overseeing the re-enactment and noticed police had failed to secure the site to prevent other accidents.

The accident occurred a few metres from an exit that should have been blocked to ensure the safety of people and vehicles at the site, police said.

Gen Al Zafeen said it was important to conduct re-enactments to verify the facts and determine people’s involvement, particularly in cases involving hefty compensation.
