Master transport plan for Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI // The Department of Transport today unveiled its surface transport masterplan which is expected to transform the way residents travel throughout the emirate. The plan includes an integrated metro tram and bus network as well as a water ferry system. There will also be separate passenger and freight rail services. The department expects up to 35 per cent of the population to use public transport by 2030 and its hope for the network is for people to be never more than five minutes or 300 metres from some form of public transport. The chairman of the department, Abdullah Rashed Al Otaiba, refused to give the estimated total expense saying costs would be revealed on a case-by-case basis as the projects evolved.
