Emirati nuclear engineers qualify

Forty pupils have graduated from an 18-month programme to become the country’s first Emirati nuclear energy maintenance engineers.

The Emirati graduates were trained as part of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation’s human capital development program, Energy Pioneers. Ten months training was delivered by ENEC at in Abu Dhabi and the other eight months was in South Korea, where ENEC’s prime contractor, the Korea Electric Power Corporation, is based.

The graduates will be responsible for ensuring the country’s first nuclear energy plant is operated and maintained to the highest standards of safety when it begins operations in 2017.
