Man caught at Dubai airport with clothes soaked in drugs, court hears

A man was caught at Dubai Airport with 18.2 kilograms of drugs soaked in his clothes, it has been alleged.

Dubai Criminal Court heard how the Nigerian man arrived on April 6 and began acting strangely.

Customs officers searched his luggage, the man became tense and officers grew suspicious.

“I searched further and spotted some white powder and suspected the clothes to be soaked in drugs,” said one customs officer.

They tested the 39-year-old's coat and police said these tests confirmed a huge quantity of methamphetamines.
Under police questioning, the man claimed a friend gave him the clothes to deliver to someone in Dubai.
"It happened without my knowledge," he told judges.

The man was charged with possessing and smuggling drugs. He denies the charges.

A verdict is set for June 27.
