Despite loss, the UAE team have earned respect

The national team played very well in the Asian Cup semi-final (UAE's Asian Cup road comes to end, as Australia pounce early for 2-0 win, September 27.)

The Australians’ two early goals put pressure on the UAE team. They tried their best in second half but couldn’t score.

They certainly deserve respect for reaching the semi finals. Sufi Muhammad, Sharjah

The UAE players performed decently, but they were better with the ball than without.

The team’s striker, Omar Abdulrahman, is a special player on the ball. He should look to go to Europe to develop his skills further.

Lee Sutton, Dubai

I am proud of the UAE team. It was a brilliant performance with good team work.

Babatunde Nelson, Dubai

The UAE players made their country proud.

However, they need to work harder to be able to take on the difficult challenges facing them in the future.

They have proven that they are capable of bringing the cup home. All the players deserve appreciation for their efforts. They have played tremendously well, leaving everybody stunned.

Lifestyle changes are key to health

The statistics mentioned in Gulf states facing cardiovascular disease epidemic, doctors say (September 27) are alarming.

They should be a cause of concern for people who have a sedentary lifestyle and do not undertake physical activity to keep them in good shape.

Children as young as 10 are being diagnosed with diabetes due to their unhealthy dietary habits and lack of exercise.

I am 25 and diabetic. I know that if I do not take proper care of myself the issue can get severe and more complex.

I sometimes feel a stinging pain in my heart and have undergone multiple tests for this problem. There is no doubt that diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are interlinked and can only be tackled with proper care, stress reduction and a healthy lifestyle.

Smokers must heed warning

I refer to Flavoured tobacco in shisha is root cause of increasing use, expert in Dubai says (December 7).

I have read that lung cancer is often undetected in the UAE until it is too late.

I pray that the people who smoke this rubbish soon realise what they are doing to their lungs.

Name withheld by request

I don’t believe this. People have been smoking shisha for ages.

Perhaps they are putting this rubbish in shisha to destroy it so they can sell more cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

Rent decreases very welcome

I was pleased to read Dubai rents and prime property prices set to fall 10% on average this year (September 28). This is good news for most of us.

Lost vehicles are a mall problem

I don’t understand the problem for the man referred to in the news story Wife lost in mall was one of 6 million 999 calls to police (January 26).

Finding a person in Dubai Mall is quite easy, as there are plenty of landmarks and a directory board.

However, they should colour-code the different floors in mall car parks. Most of these areas look exactly the same and unless you know the mall well, you will never find your car.

Theft is a minor crime for some

I feel sorry for the woman referred to in Bounce Dubai theft victim warns not to be complacent on safety (January 25).

At the same time, however, I wish that theft was the only type of crime we had to worry about in South Africa.

Fort puts culture into perspective

Thank you for publishing 250 students to be selected as Qasr Al Hosn ambassadors (September 27).

I visited the Qasr Al Hosn festival last year and enjoyed it immensely.

I recommend that every expatriate go to the fort and learn about Emirati culture.
