Bollywood star Aamir Khan and his director-wife Kiran Rao have become parents to a baby boy using IVF-surrogacy.
The baby was born at a private clinic last Thursday to a surrogate mother, according to a statement from the couple.
In an email sent out to the media, the couple said: "It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty. Due to medical complications, we were advised to have a baby through IVF - surrogacy and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that all has gone well.
"We are humbled by the greatness of God, the miracles of science and the kindness and love of our families and friends in being there for us while respecting our privacy," the couple added.
Khan, 46, has a son, Junaid, and a daughter, Ira, from his first marriage with Reena Dutta. The 16-year marriage ended in a divorce by mutual consent in 2002.
In 2005, Khan married the much younger Kiran Rao, a former assistant director of the actor's Oscar-nominated film Lagaan. Rao, who made her debut as a director in Dhobi Ghat this year, had a miscarriage in 2009.
Boyce receives Turner Prize
The Scottish artist Martin Boyce, 44, collected £25,000 (Dh144,000) on Monday after winning this year's Turner Prize - Britain's best-known and most provocative art award, given annually to a British artist under 50.
The Associated Press reported that Boyce was nominated for his solo exhibition in Zurich, which included a stark installation that's been compared with an indoor park complete with paper leaves. The jury praised Boyce for his contribution to contemporary artists' interest in historic modernism, and said he developed and found new directions using his knowledge of the field.
Boyce's installation "confirmed the consistency of his work while opening up a new sense of poetry", prize organisers said in a statement.
"It's about passing through the space and the space between the sculptures as much as the sculptures themselves," Boyce said about his work. On receiving the award, which was presented by the photographer Mario Testino, Boyce said: "It's amazing, I'm shocked. I really didn't expect it."
Double mastectomy for Rancic
Six weeks after revealing she has breast cancer, the E! News host Giuliana Rancic says she will have a double mastectomy.
The Associated Press reported that the 37-year-old made the announcement on Monday on NBC's Today show.
"It was not an easy decision but it was the best decision for me," she said.
She plans to have the surgery next week and said she hopes to recover by New Year's Eve, when she and her husband Bill Rancic are planning to be in Times Square.
24 movie will shoot in 2012
Jack is back - and the clock has started ticking. A 24 movie, based on the popular FOX TV series that ran from 2001 to 2010, will begin filming early next year.
The writer Mark Bomback (Unstoppable, Live Free or Die Hard) is due to turn in the screenplay at the end of the month, while five directors are currently attached to the project. Brian Grazer is producing.
The lead star Kiefer Sutherland - who plays the tireless government operative Jack Bauer - told the gossip TV show Extra early this year: "It's a very difficult thing to take something that you've done for eight years, almost 200 episodes, and try to find a story that's going to be unique and yet service the history of the show as well. That is to be expected."
Angelina Jolie sued over Blood and Honey plot
The Croatian journalist James Braddock is suing Angelina Jolie, claiming that the plot of the actress's latest film, In the Land of Blood and Honey, was lifted from a 2007 article he wrote.
According to the suit, Braddock's story and Jolie's film - which she wrote and directed - tell a similar tale of a rape victim who comes to work in the camp occupied by the soldiers who have abused her.
Braddock is seeking unspecified damages, reported Reuters.
Jolie was initially banned from filming in Bosnia, due to reports that her movie would feature a rape victim who falls in love with her attacker. The permit was reinstated after Bosnia's culture minister was given the script for review.
In the Land of Blood and Honey is due for worldwide release at the end of the month.
