An Emirati and his seven-month-old son died in a traffic accident in Khor Fakkan, Sharjah Police said on Tuesday.

Two people, including the victim's wife, were injured in the crash just before 9pm on Monday, said Col Waleed Al Yamahi, director of the emirate's Eastern Region Police department.

“Initial reports showed that … speeding and sudden swerving caused the accident,” Col Al Yamahi said in a statement. “The father lost control … and crossed the verge, jumped to the opposite lane before crashing head-on into another vehicle. The car flipped.”

Police patrols and ambulances were quickly at the scene and the 41-year-old man, his son and wife were transferred to hospital. The driver of the second car suffered moderate injuries.

“The Emirati man and his son died due to their injuries. The wife sustained serious injuries too,” Col Al Yamahi said. She remains in intensive care.

Sharjah Police urged motorists to be cautious, follow speed limits and pay attention to ensure their safety.
